Nijyumaru - the japanese restaurant that you won't want to miss it

I am not too familiar with any reputable Japanese restaurant in Johor Bharu and most of the time Sushi King is the only one I always saw in shopping mall. So happen i was lucky to come across this restaurant called Nijyumaru Japanese Restaurant which is quite popularly rated on the web and among the locals around. it is always mentioned and ranked as one of the famous and best Japanese restaurant in town. My first visit was very spontaneous and we underestimated the restaurant with the thought of walking in would be sufficient for us to enjoy their cuisine. However i was caught by surprised that the place was crowded. I only stayed for an hour as the other tables was reserved for the next hour. A word of advice, to avoid bumping into awkward situations like this, you can make an early reservation to secure your seat and save you all the hassle.

About their interior, they had a combination of black and golden simply put up modern Japanese feel. With red lanterns hanging around that will attract attention at night. The lighting is dim yet cozy and i could easily feel myself seared in a traditional Japanese restaurant from the ambiance displayed around. To enjoy the ambiance, you can choose to sit on "Tatami" floor rather than the modern tables or at the sushi bar. This place is also suitable for gathering and to chill out as it isn't very noisy.

Taking a look at their menu, their pricing is quite similar with another Japanese restaurant known as Sushi Zanmai. I would consider it quite worthy to savor such good Japanese food. When i am in a Japanese restaurant, food choices like baby octopus, bento sets and ramen are the few items one shouldn't miss out. What's more surprising is that the portion of food that was served to us was very generous in terms of portion. It definitely satisfy a big eater and huge foodie like me!

Marinated Baby Octopus was the first on table as appetizer, it tasted no much different from other Japanese restaurant, but it is still my favorite dish of all. Nijyumaru will be my first choice in future when I have cravings for baby octopus, because it is considered quite big despite of its price at RM7!
The biggest size of octopus compare to other Japanese restaurant, A MUST TRY !!

Lastly, i decided to give one of their signature Ramen a go, as i was craving for a bowl of authentic Japanese Ramen. However i was fooled by the hot and spicy red color bowl f ramen soup. It was my fault for i didn't read the description well enough. The ramen had various seafood in it, Japanese fish cake and etc. The minced meat and corn bits inside, made the soup looks not so clean and clear, but rich in flavour. Overall, the taste and the noodles are near to the authentic ramen.

Price range: RM6 - RM60
Rating: 9 out of 10
(MUST TRY !!)
